Washing machines, earbuds and toothbrushes now carry AI labels. Some of these features are useful. Many are ordinary automation with a new name.

Three questions to ask

  1. What exactly does it do that the non-AI version cannot?
  2. Does it work offline, or does it need an account and internet?
  3. Would you pay extra for that feature if it were not called AI?

If the answers are vague, treat the AI label as marketing and compare the product on its normal specs and price.

Simple rule: compare the product with the AI label switched off in your head. If it is not worth the price on normal specs, the AI part will not save it.
