Mechanical vs membrane keyboards: which should you buy?
MIXEDMixed: useful for some people, depends on how you use it.
HARDWAREBoth types type well. The difference is feel, sound, durability and price.
Mechanical
- Each key has its own switch, so presses feel consistent
- Lasts for years and keycaps can be replaced
- Louder, especially blue switches, and costs more
Membrane
- Quiet and cheap
- Softer, less precise feel
- Usually cannot be repaired when keys fail
If you type or game for hours every day, a mechanical keyboard is worth trying. For a shared office or a tight budget, a good membrane keyboard is perfectly fine.
